Chronic Disease Management
Constitution is defined as mental, physical make
up of a person. A homeopathic Physician starts his consultation the
moment a person enters in a homeopath's consulting room. It can
start with the way a person looks, how he / she enters in the
consulting room
Constitutional homeopathy refers to the treatment of a person as a
whole, including past and present symptoms. When accurately
implemented, homeopathic constitutional care can elicit a profound
healing response. Homeopathy can be extremely effective in treating
chronic and long-term health problems
According to homeopathy, mind and body are very much linked and
physical problems cannot be effectively cured without understanding
and correcting the person’s constitution and character.
Constitution in homeopathy means a person’s state of health,
including their temperament and any inherited and acquired
characteristics. To determine the constitution of a person, a
homeopath usually asks great many questions.
Homeopathy believes that if your constitution is healthy, you will
not succumb to any infection, i.e. bacteria and viruses will not
affect you as your susceptibility is low.
In medicine we believe that one becomes sick due to infection, i.e.
bacteria and viruses; hence their treatment is aimed at killing the
infectious agent using strong drugs. This however, further reduces
the immunity of the person making it weaker and the person becomes
more susceptible and falls sick again and again. Homeopaths
believe, however, that first your constitution becomes weak and
then you become susceptible to infection. The bacteria and viruses
are the end products of disease process and not the cause of
disease. The bacteria and viruses are everywhere; they will not
affect you till your immunity is strong.
In homeopathy treatment is aimed at raising the vitality, i.e.
immunity of the person so that he can fight out the disease
himself. This is why homeopathy is able to cure permanently with
out frequent remissions. When any remedy is prescribed on the basis
of the constitution of a person it cures the ailment permanently.
For example, someone with a Pulsatilla constitution will respond
well to Pulsatilla remedy almost regardless of illness they are
suffering from.
Homeopathic
prophylaxis began with Hahnemann. During the scarlet fever
epidemics, and later with cholera, Hahnemann began to clarify his
concept of Genus Epidemicus. In Aphorism 101 of the Organon he
writes, "It may conceivably happen that in the first case of an
epidemic disease that presents itself to the physician's notice he
does not at once obtain a knowledge of its complete picture, as it
is only by a close observation of several cases of every such
collective disease that he can become conversant with the totality
of its signs and symptoms."And then in Aphorism 102, in Organon
written by Hahnemann "All those affected with the epidemic
prevailing at a given time have certainly contracted it from one
and the same source and hence are suffering from the same disease;
but the whole extent of such an epidemic disease cannot be learned
from one single patient, but is only to be perfectly deduced and
ascertained from the sufferings of several patients of different
constitutions."
Genus Epidemicus is the word coined by Hahnemann which denotes the
homoeopathic remedy that is similar to the totality of symptoms
found in majority of patients suffering in an epidemic disease and
which if given to the patient before the onset of the disease
prevents the epidemic disease or when given during the disease
cures the patient.
With a homeopathic immunization, after it is administered, this
very minute dose of homeopathically prepared disease material is
recognized by the body so that when the person comes across the
disease later in life, the body is equipped to fight it off.
Homeopaths believe that the reason that regular vaccinations are so
effective is that they work according to one of the basic
principles of homeopathy: The law of similars, or like cures like.
Homeopathic medicines are always prescribed based on similarity to
the symptoms that need to be cured. Homeopathy means “similar
medicine.” Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy,
discovered the law of similars over 200 years ago: those same
symptoms a particular medicine produces in a healthy person can
thus be cured in a sick person. Homeopathic vaccines take the law
of similars a logical step further: like not only treats like; like
also prevents like.
Preventive medicines occupy a prominent place today and it is
logical that it should, because prevention makes cure unnecessary.
As the Law of Similars excels in the power to cure, it excels more
forcibly and certainly in the art of disease prevention. It is true
that the agents employed bear a crude similarity to, the
homeopathic principle but because of this crudity of preparation
and administration we meet with much disappointment and
considerable consequential evil effects following their use.
Homeopathic prophylaxis never causes anaphylaxis or shock, never
results in secondary infection, never leaves in its wake serum or
vaccine disease or any other severe reaction; it simply protects
gently the system from being prone to illnesses.
